Studio Lab

Studio Lab is a facilitated open studio for sustained creative practice in East Redfern, Sydney.

It offers three hours of protected time, space, and support for people who want to work on their own creative projects in a calm shared studio environment. Unlike a traditional workshop, there is no fixed project or step-by-step instruction. You bring an existing project, creative research, or an emerging idea, and work without pressure to produce a finished outcome.

Studio Lab supports the slower rhythms of creative practice: testing ideas, revisiting materials, developing work over time, and returning regularly to something that matters.

It sits between one-off workshops, formal education, and working alone at home. It offers reliable studio infrastructure for people who want continuity in their creative work but may not have access to an appropriate workspace or creative community.

Each session is facilitated by Parish Stapleton in his East Redfern studio. Parish is present throughout to offer technical input, reflective dialogue, and practical support when requested, while keeping the work self-directed. The emphasis is on supported independence rather than instruction.

Studio Lab welcomes artists and makers at many stages of practice, from people newly exploring their creative identity to independent practitioners, researchers, and experienced artists who want dedicated studio time alongside others.

A small selection of studio materials is available for general use. If you would like to use cyanotype, solvent drawing, or other specialised processes during Studio Lab, I recommend first attending the relevant workshop so those materials can be used safely and with confidence.

Studio Lab is a space for curiosity, attention, and care. A place to work without hurry and without needing to explain what you are making.
